The abbreviations used in these rules:
rp, RP, r/p: role play or role playing admin: administrator - these are the members in charge of running the site. Svanelle is the only 'admin' to be labled administrator. This is to show that she created the site. im, IM: instant message foa, FOA, FoA: Flight of Arrow LoA, loa, LOA: Leave of Absence avy: avatar -the picture under your screen name sig: signature - what appears at the bottom of all of your posts. Bio: biography g-moding, gming, gm: god-moding, god mode OOC: out of character IC: In character BIC: Back in character pm: private message Description This is a role playing site. The idea is that members can roleplay in a world (Tamriel) that they create as they go. This is not a video game site. The format follows a written storyline with one person posting an action, and another person posting an action in response. There is plot, emotional descriptions, and a definite story line. If this is not what you came here to do, please go elsewhere. General Rules: Try to be pleasant, use common sense. When people are mean to each other, it can most likely be taken as a joke. Nobody's going to like you if you are absolutely nasty to other people. Just use general courtesy rules and be decent. Accounts: You may have only one account. If you wish another character, you may speak to admins about this, but one account per person. Registering: Please do not register unless you are serious about this site. The members of this site are here because they enjoy roleplaying. Again, if you did not come here to partake in story-like roleplay, please go elsewhere. We do not tolerate people who have come here without the intent to roleply. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter. Real names/personal info: We generally don't call each other by our real names on this board. We call each other by screen names, nicknames, or what the person wishes to be called. For example: Morgan's real name is not really Morgan, but that's what we call her because that's part of her screenname and that's what she prefers to be called here. However, Malarius makes Gone With the Wind references whenever she wants to piss Morgan off, because it's a reference to her real name, so obviously that's not too strict. If you chose not to hide your IM information and e-mail information from the public, they can be seen. Please be aware that you do this at your own risk. FOA, Invision Power Board, Forumer.com, and any members, moderators, and/or administrators may not be held accountable. If we see an address or a full name, we may or may not delete it, depending on if we think we know what you're doing. This will be really loose for now, but we'll tighten up on it as the site gets bigger and the chances of creeps haunting us go up. Anyone caught soliciting for personal information will be immediately banned, no questions, appeals, ifs, ands, or buts. How Post Rank Effects What You Can Do: New Member (0 posts) - can post in all forums. New members cannot propose amendments to the rules. New members cannot post in the Senior Member Lounge. Junior Member (100 posts) - same as the new members. Full Member (250) - same as the new members and junior members Senior Member (500) - Can post in all forums. Can propose amendments to the rules. Can post in the Senior Member Lounge. Advanced Member (1000) - Same as Senior Member Membrum Cum Laude (5000) - may apply for fiefs and races in addition to Senior Member privlidges. Membrum Summa Cum Laude (10,000) - will be considered for a global moderator position, depending up the need for such. (retains the rights of Membri Cum Laude) Leaves of Absence: Any LoA should be posted in the general discussion board. It is mandatory for an absense of a week or more. If you are absent for longer than a week, Admins have the right to control your character until you return. If Admins feel that you have been gone for a substantial amount of time without a Leave of Absence (Like more than a month) they will delete your membership and if you have any countries or towns, they will be forfeit. A warning e-mail may be sent, but admins also reserve the right to delete any member's account without warning. Avatars: Avys are a requirement. Anything fantasy-like is fine, and if you absolutaly must, i don't mind something nude, but i'd really prefer if it wasnt. They also may not be larger than 110x170. If you need help with this, pm the avatar to an admin and we may modify the size settings or proportionately adjust your avatar for you. Signiatures: Be creative with your sig, just make sure you tell who your character(s) are, and include a brief description. I also don't want anything absolutally huge. As a rule of thumb, if it's possible to have your screen scrolled so that nothing is visible but your sig, it's too big. Warnings: Admins and mods are equiped with the abilty to issue warnings. If you do something horrible, you will probably get a warning. If you accumulate enough warnings, you will be banned from the sight. I doubt that it will be necessary to use this method though. We're really not very strict. Examples of things that would cause a warning: Harrasing some one with bad intent Over spamming a role play Being an overall jerk. god-moding powerplaying About Characters: Major Characters - New Characters should be posted in the Bios forum using the Character Application. The biography should be detailed and give the reader a fairly good idea about what to expect from your character. An admin needs to approve your character before you can use that character. Admins reserve the right to deny the right to use a character or suspend the right to use a character at any given time. (If you character belongs to a specific country, it will have to approved specifically by your country's ruler.) Minor Characters - A member may create as many minor characters as a situation calls for regardless of their post rank, however, this privledge may not be abused, and the characters are meant to be MINOR. They should not have a developed plot or history. Some examples of minor characters are: A servant, A guard, a dog, a horse. As a general rule, if these characters are crucial to the development of the plot, they are no longer a minor character. Character Limitations: Do not make your character overly powerful. Such "broken" (overly powerful) characters are easy to create, especially with the use of magic, but they will not be tolerated on this site. They unbalance the roleplaying and make life difficult for everyone. If any admin has a reason to believe that your are using a broken character or a character in a broken manner, they will request that it be fixed. Ignoring these requests will result in consequential action. Often, broken characters are a result of magic, hence Tamriel is a limited magic realm. The only permitted magic is listed in a seperate thread, as well as the type of character would use it (i.e. witch, sorcerer, elemental, necromancer, etc). Any other type of magic must be approved by the admin, as will having one type of character using another type of magic. Number of Characters for Rank: The number of Characters you are allowed to play depends on the number of pips (little blue squares below your name) you have. This rank may occasionally be overruled if it is approved by an admin. New Members - 1 Junior Members - 2 Full Members - 3 Senior Members - 4 Advanced Member- 5 Membrum Cum Laude- 6 (May apply for a fief or race) Membrum Summa Cum Laude - 7 Admins - Unlimited (this is so if some one needs a character to interact with, the admin can supply it. These requests should be PMed to an admin) Admins are the only the only group able to create a country. Any admins wishing a second country must pm their requests to Svanelle. Races/Fiefs/Countries (For Membri cum laude and Admins): Races: A race is anything that is not strictly human or is a cult/organization. Some examples are: elven-like people, winged people, a group of people that worship Brogan and have organized a society. Be very careful when deciding on your race. Remember that we like humans. If you will find it in Star Trek, its a no-go. If its found in Mists of Avalon, go for it. All races must be approved by an admin, and only Membri Cum Laude and above may create a race. Fiefs: To create a fief of city, you must have the approval of the admin that rules the country inwhich you wish to have your fief/city. If you create a fief/city, you are obviously allowed to rule it. You are however subject to the rule of your country's ruler. This option is open only to Membri Cum Laude and above. *N.B. You may have either a fief or a race. If, however, you wish your race to be based in a specific area, it is possible that you will have a forum for that race. On some rare occasions, an admin may approve you for both a fief and a race. Countries: Countries are open to admins only. If you wish to rule a country, you must speak with the admins. Obtaining a country automatically promotes you to admin level and thus it is very likely that you will be turned down. We have too few members at the moment to have any more countries, and do not want to run into the scenario of "too many chiefs, not enough indians". Powerplay/God-moding: Powerplaying is when you control another person's character. This is just like real life-- if you couldn't have made the person do it in real life, you can't on this forum. Godmoding is when your character behaves in a manner unrealistic to their physical, magical or mental strength. This is also when you use OOC knowledge in character. For example, if Emcee knows that Nahazille's going to invade, but her characters wouldn't, her character Elhaleth wouldn't move troops to the borders in anticipation. Godmoding and powerplaying is really annoying and if you do so excessively, some one will probably yell at you. If you are warned about it multiple times, the Admins will a) suspend your account b.) warn you, and if necessary c) ban you. If you feel that it is necessary to g-mode in a post, your should write something like this: OOC-I g-moded a bit here. If you want me to change it, I will. Revealing information that a member would have known, after a member has caused something to happen will also be considered Godmoding. For Example: If Svanelle has a character that is going to attack some one in a tavern, it would be godmoding to tell her that a uniformed officer was in the tavern at that time, because she would have seen that officer and would not have attacked whoever she attacked. Posting Out of Character (OOC): For any OOC remarks in a roleplaying forum, they should be marked in any of the following ways: OOC- your remark ((your remark)) (your remark) <- use this only if your post has no other parentheses in it, or if it is obvious that you are not In Character (IC) If some one stops the role play and begins a discussion in the same board, the first post should have either OOC, (()) or (). any comments following that do not need parentheses to denote that they OOC. When the role play resumes, it should have some sort of note that it is resuming the role play.: BIC (back in character) - post IC-post Please avoid carrying on discussions out of character in a role-playing forum. It is irritating for those trying to follow your story line. Every country does supply an OOC board that can be used for these discussions. Porn: Its not allowed. It puts the forum at risk. Just don't do it. I don't care if characters make out or something, that's fine. As a general rule, since people can join the forum at 13, lets keep the ratings PG-13. Note on the time period: This is set in what's the rough equivalent of the Middle Ages on a world called Tamriel. Not Earth. This means that there are elves, magic, and other assorted fantasy-like elements. This means that there are NO guns, no cannons, and gun powder is only just being discovered. Note on the seasons: Since setting up seasons would be very confusing, especially since all roleplays move at a different place, Tamriel will remain in a permanent state of 'plot convenience season'. This means that It is whatever season you want it to be, and your character can miraculously jump from a country in winter to a bordering country in the middle of august in a period of 24 hours. Your character may also exist in a 'no-season' state to. In other words, I really couldn't care less about what season your country's in, unless its actually important. In Conclusion: I realize that there are a lot of rules. While i do not expect you to memorize them, you will be held accountable. We're not going to yell at you if you've made an honest mistake, but if you've been told not to do something (or to do something, as the case may be), cooperate. It makes things so much easier. Rules that you should be familiar with are things like when you need to post an LoA, how to set up a bio, and when you need admin permission for something. The rest is mostly courtesy. Thank you for reading these, and have fun. -------------------- ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
